Avion Orr

We often hear how one dedicated teacher can change the course of a student's life for good. For Avion, an art teacher at Speyside High School in Tobago, the impact has been mutual.

 

“I never delved into painting. I was afraid somehow of doing it, of drawing, so I never took part. But I’m living by the sea, and I have always been fascinated by the colors and the waves and sky, nature. I used to pray, you know, ‘God show me somehow to do this’.

 

It was seeing one of her students take up painting that inspired her to venture into this new medium. “Seeing that young lady paint was my inspiration, but I never told her."
